What might be the role of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association in connecting with pre-service teacher education programs and teacher induction and mentorship programs?

    Clarifying my comments here:
A video that shows pre-service teacher what the Schulwerk is would be great. I would also love to see a version of that video or videos where an expert talks the viewer through what is occurring on screen. Not all teacher education programs are conversant in the Schulwerk and I think the commentary would benefit the student and the teacher.
My other caution is to develop a series of videos or experiences to show the potential of the Schulwerk in lots of environments and diverse learners. What about the child who doesn't demonstrate great self-regulation? The classroom without space, supplies or time? What small measures can you take in a non-ideal situation to incorporate the Schulwerk in your practice?
And lastly, please ensure that any videos we develop show students of color and teachers of color. We need to see ourselves and our students as part of the solution

Great ideas here from other posts! I think that having students see what Orff looks like in real classrooms would be very helpful, especially if a wide variety of teaching styles were represented. Attending Orff workshops has been eye-opening in terms of the wide spectrum of teaching possibilities available within the Orff approach. Pre-service teachers may see model lessons from the same teachers repeatedly, and while this can be helpful, it is also important to expose pre-service educators to what else - and who else - is out there.

I wonder if AOSA connections to pre-service teacher education programs in a similar way to our colleagues in other music organizations, such as ASTA (American String Teachers Association) and NAfME (National Association for Music Education), with collegiate chapters and programs explicitly aimed at pre-service teachers.

I like the idea of video resources. It would support teachers to see what it really looks like. Maybe with a commentary version as well? Where a person conversant with the Schulwerk could talk you through it? (Patrick?)
Also, please make sure that students and teachers are representative of our diversity. If my teachers see one more video of a well stocked music classroom with monochromatic children.. To change, we must see ourselves as part of the solution.

What might be the role? Fostering relationships. To build on what Matthew has said - Chapter workshop are great opportunities. Some of the best energy in chapter workshops I have seen has come from the pre-service teachers in attendance. A chapter president (or their designee) should seek out a relationship with any mus.ed. programs in their sphere. Free or greatly reduced fees and the promise of snacks might be all you need. Chapter workshops held on college campuses cut the travel factor.

The video library is a wonderful resource for members, but could there be a video explicitly aimed at the pre-service teacher? Something a teacher of teachers can play and say, "and this ladies and gentlemen is Orff-Schulwerk. What questions might you have?" I believe that would be a great project at the national level. Heck we could go so far as to credit the video with a lesson plan......who's in?

I feel as though this connection could be best made at the chapter level for which AOSA could provide suggestions or support. Perhaps local chapters could be in close connection with the student teaching coordinators or supervising teachers at local universities and ask for a time to talk to pre-service teachers about our organization and the Schulwerk itself. Maybe even provide a free chapter workshop to pre-service teachers and information on the next Levels classes (if available). At the national level, a "pre-service teacher page" that could consolidate a lot of information that is already on the web page like an "intro to Schulwerk" video, chapter information, link to the digital mentorship program, and sample lessons could be helpful as well.
